CABB BIO: Cedar Avenue Blues Band fuses old school with new vision for the blues. In May of 2010, lead guitar player John Weeks teamed up with singer/songwriter Melanie Owen Padilla to talk about starting a project... John's extensive background in the blues steered the course while Melanie took on the challenge of writing for the blues. Their original bass player had a warehouse in which to rehearse, situated on the Platte River at Cedar Avenue. In March of 2011 CABB underwent a change of cast, and John & Mel were joined by the up-and-coming drummer Ryan Kurtz, and the ubiquitous Jay Ryan, bass player and musician about town. Together they are Cedar Avenue Blues Band, a taxi cabb careening through the streets of Blues history out onto the interstate of modern Blues music, fueled by sublime covers and smokin' originals, hot licks and scorching vocals.
